Christopher Hoggarth - Conductor & Music Director

Christopher Hoggarth studied Music as an Undergraduate and Postgraduate at the University of Nottingham where he conducted the university orchestras, including a tour to Italy. He gained the University's Performance Award for three consecutive years.

 

Christopher's conducting engagements have covered a broad spectrum of work encompassing orchestras, wind ensembles, choirs and musical theatre. As well as conducting the Halesowen Orchestra, he is the Founder and Conductor of the chamber orchestra Sinfonia Silvana and has also worked with Nottingham Symphony Orchestra, York Symphony Orchestra and Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra. He is Conductor of the Nottingham Youth Intermediate Orchestra and has conducted the Senior Orchestra on tours of Vienna, Jersey, Amsterdam and Prague.

 

Passionate about exploring new music, Christopher has conducted several first performances, most notably Miles Hancock’s Breakbeat Concerto for orchestra, the UK Champion Beatboxer, and UK Champion Turntable DJ. Christopher has conducted concerto works with soloists including Balazs Hegedus, Matt Glendening and 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year Sheku Kanneh-Mason.

 

Whilst at University, Christopher studied conducting with Jonathan Tilbrook and privately with Mark Heron. He also participated in several conducting masterclasses including the Colin Metters International Conducting Masterclass.

 

Christopher's main instrument is the flute, and he has performed regularly as a soloist and as an orchestral player. He holds the LRSM for Flute Performance and also performs as a piano accompanist.
